Rock & Pop Vocal Training

I have worked-and am working with many artists both solo and in groups at different stages in their careers

All training and classes  are confidential…the following have given permission for me to mention their names to give an idea of a cross section of training

  • Tom Odell
  • Vanessa White
  • Kimberly Walsh
  • Eliza Doolittle
  • Coldplay
  • Muse (Matt Bellamy)
  • Florence  Welch
  • Rizzle Kicks
  • Guy Garvey
  • Alana (Nero)

Professional singers need to keep their voice in the best condition possible i.e. ”Match fit” and as necessary to rectify any bad habits that may have crept in.

Aim; to develop  the individual voice, keeping the individuality and characteristics, developing range stamina and tonal quality

Specific vocal exercises given to both develop and support the individual artists needs-based on listening  to their voice live and on recorded material

Advice on vocal health/diet/lifestyle- based on informed information

  • Vocal lessons can help an artist who writes find other colours/expressiveness/range which can help their writing to develop.
  • Technical work can be applied in a lesson to the singers own songs: either pr –recording or with their own tracks before a public performance
  • When/where possible, I visit a live performance to see how I might be able to help: honest but constructive advice given both vocally and performance as appropriate

Less experienced artists at whatever stage they are in their development, or desire to work professionally can build strength and confidence with good vocal direction. Some of the ideas to explore can be:

  • Breathing exercises
  • Connecting the whole body
  • Intonation aural training
  • Timbre (quality of sound)
  • Style-current and past
